Heartland's James Taylor's shameless deception, some video responses.

Here's some background for better understanding the Red Team's limited mindset, an oldie but goldie.  Heartland’s Institutes’ spokesman James Taylor, also president of the “Spark of Freedom Foundation” and contributor to Forbes magazine wrote a sensationally titled May 30, 2013 article: “Global Warming Alarmists Caught Doctoring '97-Percent Consensus' Claims,” containing melodramatic language such as:

“As is the case with other ‘surveys’ alleging an overwhelming scientific consensus on global warming, the question surveyed had absolutely nothing to do with the issues of contention between global warming alarmists and global warming skeptics. …”

Either through idiocy, ignorance, or both, global warming alarmists and the liberal media have been reporting that the Cook study shows a 97 percent consensus that humans are causing a global warming crisis. However, that was clearly not the question surveyed. …”

“… These biased, misleading, and totally irrelevant “surveys” form the best “evidence” global warming alarmists can muster in the global warming debate. And this truly shows how embarrassingly feeble their alarmist theory really is.
_________________________________________________________

I read Taylor’s 1300 word article shaking my head at the childish, yet malicious, deception he was shamelessly unfurling.  Then in the comments section one ‘Scottar’ stepped up with 13 claims loosely based on Taylor’s disingenuous ramblings.  It struck me as a challenge worth tackling.

The result was “The Forbes conversation continues - 13 points examined” June 16, 2013 at my WUWTW.  For this exercise, rather than my own responses, I responded to each of Scottar’s claims with a short video that clearly addressed said issues with important information that helps clear up the errors.  At least if good-faith constructive learning is your thing.

Since the videos are 2013 and earlier I figure this will make a good start for CSC’s video collection.  Also worth noting is that Heartland Institute has been instrumental in developing EPA Pruitt’s Red Team, Blue Team concept. Though, now Heartland is frustrated with Pruitt.  Read all about it:

With no further ado, here's an easy watching video collection that reviews most the different ways we know that manmade global warming is real and that our warming planet is driving climate change that will continue getting more disruptive for centuries to come.

(1) Warming not ‘global’. It is shown in satellite data to be northern hemisphere only

(3) Temperatures longer term have been modified to enhance warming trend and minimize cyclical appearance. Station dropout, missing data, change of local siting, urbanization, instrumentation contaminate the record, producing exaggerating warming. The GAO scolded NOAA for poor compliance with siting standards.

(5) Climate models all have a strong hot spot in the mid to high troposphere in the tropical regions. Weather balloons and satellite show no warming in this region the last 30 years.

(7) Alarmists predicted an increase in hurricane frequency and strength globally but the global activity had diminished after 2005 to a 30+ year low. The U.S. has gone seven consecutive years without a landfalling major hurricane, the longest stretch since the 1860s

(8) Alarmists have predicted a significant increase in heat records but despite heat last 2 summers, the 1930s to 1950s still greatly dominated the heat records. And when stations with over 80 years of temperature data were considered, the number of heat records last July were not extraordinary relative to past hot summers.

(11) Alarmists had indicated Greenland and arctic ice melt would accelerate. The arctic ice tracks with the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation and the IARC shows the ice cover was similarly reduced in the 1950s when the Atlantic was last in a similar warm mode. In Greenland, the warmth of the 1930s and 1940s still dominates the records and longer term temperatures have declined.

"scottar" writes: "In short you alarmists appear to be waiting for the nexus climate guru to appear to consolidate the pseudo science that started under James Hansen and nurtured by Al Gore. I laugh at your constant ad-hominidism attacks against those who see through the facade of alarmist science like Mr. Andrew. And I don’t blame him for using a pseudonym with all the recent attacks against those who oppose the consensus of progressives, it’s like a repeat of the inquisition of the feudal era for basically the same reasons."

What " recent attacks"?
Pointing out that Heartland and Poptech are spreading misdirection and lies?

Heck you referring to "progressives" is another example that you are in this for the political battle and not interested in what the Earth Observations have to tell us.

You talk about "ad hominidism" then in the same breath charge whoever with "feudal era inquisition" practices.  Come on, have you folks no sense of introspection and self-skepticism?

"Perhaps the most boring video you'll ever see, and definitely the most important." But then again, after watching it most said that if you followed along with what the presenter (a professor emeritus of Physics at Univ of Colorado-Boulder) is saying, it's quite easy to pay attention, because it is so damn compelling.
